Do Beefeaters have to be ex military?

Who are the Beefeaters? Despite their quirky appearance, the Beefeaters are all former military personnel; in fact, they have to have served a minimum of 22 years as part of the Armed Forces of the Commonwealth realms. In total, there are 37 warders guarding the tower and one chief warder as part of the garrison.
