The Master/Captain tends to stay on a single ship for a few years. The ships I've worked on have all had 2 Master rotations. Master 1 is on ship for two months, then goes on vacation for two months. Master 2 is on ship while Master 1 is on vacation, and goes on vacation when Master 1 returns to the ship.
