Do I need to complete ETIAS?

Yes. Unless you fall under one of the exceptions , you are required to have a valid ETIAS travel authorisation to enter any of the European countries requiring ETIAS. Travellers without such authorisation will be refused entry at the border.

As of 2026, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) is officially coming into operation. If you are a citizen of a visa-exempt country (such as the U.S., Canada, or the UK) traveling to any of the 30 European countries in the Schengen Area, you will eventually need to complete this online application. The system is expected to start in the last quarter of 2026, with a six-month "transitional period" following the launch where it may not be strictly mandatory for every single traveler. However, once fully implemented, it will be a legal requirement. The application costs 20€ for adults (though it's free for those under 18 or over 70) and is linked digitally to your passport for up to three years. It is designed to pre-screen travelers for security and health risks, and while most applications are approved in minutes, you should apply at least a few days before your departure to avoid any last-minute technical delays.
