While everyone can benefit from the speed of PreCheck, travelers 75 and older receive several PreCheck-style benefits even in the standard security line. According to TSA's "Seniors" policy, those over 75 are allowed to keep their shoes and light jackets on during screening. If they trigger the walk-through metal detector, they are often allowed a second pass before being subjected to a pat-down. However, they must still remove "large electronics" (laptops) and "3-1-1 liquids" from their bags unless they have a formal TSA PreCheck membership. Having the actual PreCheck indicator on their boarding pass is still highly recommended for seniors with mobility issues, as it ensures they can stay in the shorter, faster-moving line and avoid the "Advanced Imaging Technology" (body scanner) machines, which can be difficult for some to stand in with arms raised.
