Using OMNYUse the same card or device throughout your journey and transfers will be applied automatically. OMNY is available on all MTA-operated local, limited, and Select Bus Service routes in New York City, as well as express buses.
OMNY can currently be used to pay fares at all New York City Subway and Staten Island Railway stations, on all MTA buses, and on the Roosevelt Island Tram; when completely rolled out, it will also replace the MetroCard on Bee-Line buses, NICE buses, and AirTrain JFK.

A red screen that reads Payment Method Expired indicates that the card being used to pay the fare has expired. Riders are encouraged to select another payment option. A red screen that reads Payment Not Accepted means you may have tapped a cancelled card or your payment method may be blocked by the OMNY system.
Ride Limit ExceededYou have exceeded the maximum number of taps for one payment method. You can tap and pay for yourself and up to 3 additional riders with the same payment method on a single trip.
What does “OMNY” mean? OMNY, which stands for One Metro New York, is based on the concept of unifying fare payments and ticketing across multiple modes of transportation. We believe that transportation is an essential service that connects communities and brings the diversity and energy of New York together.
In addition express buses are usually much faster than subways and local buses. They are meant for commuters only and generally serve areas that are far from subway stations and therefore have no other direct link to Manhattan. I have to say that you are paying for a premium service.
Pay for multiple people: Up to four riders can use the same payment method. Tap OMNY or swipe a pay-per-ride MetroCard as each person enters. Tap a contactless card or a digital wallet at OMNY readers to pay the fare.
