Do UK citizens get Interrail or Eurail?

If you're a UK citizen, you can still travel with an Interrail Pass – this won't change as a result of the Brexit.

As of 2026, UK citizens and residents qualify for Interrail passes, not Eurail. The distinction is based on residency rather than EU membership: Interrail is the rail pass range for residents of Europe (including the UK, Turkey, and Switzerland), while Eurail is designed specifically for "overseas" visitors from the Americas, Asia, Oceania, and Africa. Despite the UK's departure from the European Union, the Rail Delivery Group confirmed that the UK remains a full member of the Eurail Group. This means a British traveler can use an Interrail Global Pass to explore 33 different countries. One unique restriction for UK residents is the "Inbound/Outbound" rule: your Interrail pass only allows for two journeys in your home country—one to leave the UK and one to return—to prevent people from using it as a cheap season ticket for daily commuting. Beyond that, the benefits, pricing, and coverage of Interrail and Eurail are now almost identical, allowing friends from the UK and the US to travel together on the same trains.

Rail Europe is an official reseller of the tickets and passes that Eurail creates. Interrail is the same pass but for Europeans only; Eurail/Rail Europe is for non-Europeans. While Eurail also sells the same pass as Rail Europe, Rail Europe often sells these passes at a discounted price.

Eurail passes do not cover local transport like trams or metros, only intercity trains. Rail Europe is another company that offers similar European train passes.
