Do waterfalls ever freeze?

It depends on the weather, the temperature, the rate of flow from the river that's feeding into the waterfall. WCCO asked several kids near the falls what it would take to make a waterfall freeze. They correctly answered cold air and specifically, temperatures at or below 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Maintaining a running waterfall during the winter can disrupt the warm water temperatures at the bottom of the pond. This will create even water temperatures throughout the pond and continue to introduce cold water into the pond as water coming over the spillway is introduce to the cooler air temperatures.
