Do you get a passport stamp in Switzerland?

Hi all, I just flew into Zurich yesterday night and my passport wasn't stamped. Apparently it's the norm here, you won't get one unless you ask for it or need a visa to enter.

In 2026, you generally do not receive a physical passport stamp in Switzerland if you are entering from outside the Schengen Area. Switzerland has fully transitioned to the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), which officially replaced manual stamping with a digital biometric record in late 2025. When you land at Zurich or Geneva, you will instead provide a facial scan and fingerprints at an automated kiosk or with a border officer; this data is used to automatically track your "90/180-day" stay limit. If you are entering Switzerland from another Schengen country (like France or Italy), there is no border control at all, and thus no record or stamp of any kind. For the "nostalgic" traveler, the era of the ink stamp in Switzerland is effectively over. However, you can still request a "commemorative" stamp at certain high-altitude tourist spots like the Jungfraujoch "Top of Europe" post office, though this has no legal standing for immigration purposes and is purely for your personal travel journal.
