There's so much to see and do at Dollywood. Since you'll likely be there all day (or two), a backpack is probably one of the best bags to bring if you must bring something. If you've got an open schedule and can afford to plan your whole trip around the best time to visit Dollywood, opt for April or September, both sunny and beautiful times of year without being too hot. (Make sure if you go in spring to avoid Spring Break week, though.)
According to the Dollywood website, opt for a visit that falls before or after a major holiday, as the park will be less crowded. If you're taking weather into consideration, April or September may yield the best days to enjoy the park since it's typically sunny without being too hot.
