Do you have to pay for the beach at Monterosso?

The biggest part of the beach is private and of course you have to pay for the services, but there are some free public beaches as well: in front of the railway station, under the statue of the Giant and at the end of the beach towards Vernazza, near the historical center.

In Monterosso al Mare, the largest of the Cinque Terre villages, the beach is divided into "Privato" (Paid) and "Spiaggia Libera" (Free) sections. If you choose a private beach club, you can expect to pay between €20 and €35 per day for a setup that typically includes two sunbeds and an umbrella. These sections offer amenities like changing rooms, showers, and bars. However, there are several free sections—marked on local maps in green—located directly in front of the train station and near the "Giant" statue. These areas are free for anyone to use with their own towel, though they can become extremely crowded during the peak July and August season. In 2026, many visitors prefer the free sections for a quick swim but opt for the paid clubs if they plan to spend the entire day to ensure they have shade and guaranteed space.
