Do you have to pay to get on Tybee Island?

Tybee is a “Pay to Park Community” in order to keep critical island services available for visitors and residents. Since parking is so important to keeping the island in good condition for your next visit, there are no free, public parking spaces on Tybee.

This beach is huge, parking is $2.00 per hour 2 hour minimum. There can be sand fleas but I did not get a bite, one friend may have. The water was warm like a bath, clean and clear. Bath house could have had toilets washed, but otherwise it was basically a clean beach bathroom.

Predators: Sea stars, crabs, flounder, haddock, cod, and other bottom feeding fish. Conservation Status: Tybee's city ordinance prohibits removing live sand dollars from the beach. Interesting Fact: Sand dollars, also called key-hole urchins, can live for ten years.

During the Revolutionary War, Tybee was the staging area for French Admiral D'Estaing's ill-fated 1779 “Siege of Savannah”, when combined multinational forces attempted to defeat the British held Savannah. During the War of 1812, the Tybee Island Lighthouse was used to signal Savannah of possible attack by the British.
