In 2026, the system formerly known as "Genie Plus" has been rebranded at Walt Disney World as Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and yes, you must reserve specific arrival windows to use it. Unlike the old "FastPass" paper tickets, you cannot simply show up to a ride and get in the shorter lane. For Disney World guests, you can now purchase and pre-schedule up to three rides before you even arrive at the park (7 days early for hotel guests, 3 days for others). Once you are in the park and "tap into" your first reserved ride, you can use the app to book your next available window, continuing this "one-in, one-out" cycle throughout the day. At Disneyland, the system still operates on a "day-of" basis where you book your first ride only after you have scanned into the park. Regardless of the coast, the "standby" line remains free and requires no reservation, but the Lightning Lane is strictly by-appointment-only through the official Disney app. If you don't make a reservation for a specific time slot, you cannot access the expedited queue.
