Delta has four tiers of elite status: Silver, Gold, Platinum and Diamond. You can earn status by flying and spending enough within a single calendar year, and once earned you'll keep it through the following calendar year.

Plus, the Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) you earn above your Medallion Tier qualification threshold will roll over to the next qualification year to give you a jump start on earning Status again – this is known as “Rollover MQMs.”
Medallion status is earned in a particular calendar year, and then it extends to the following year and the next until the end of January. So, if you earned Diamond status through flight and spending activity in the 2023 calendar year, your status would extend through 2024 and expire Jan. 31, 2025.
To earn Delta Diamond you must fly 125,000 miles a year (known as Medallion Qualifying Miles) or fly 140 segments a year (known as Medallion Qualifying Segments), and then also spend either $20,000 a year (known as Medallion Qualification Dollars) or participate in a waiver.
Further, you can spend $25,000 on either the Delta Platinum or Delta Reserve cards to earn an MQD waiver for Silver, Gold and Platinum status. Or, you can spend $250,000 for a Diamond MQD waiver. This completely waives the MQD requirement, meaning you only need to meet the MQS or MQM requirement to earn status.
Even the lowest tier of Delta Medallion status, Silver Medallion, can offer hundreds of dollars in value by saving you on Delta checked bag fees, netting you Delta priority boarding and more.
Flyers with lower levels of Delta status can get into the Sky Club, too – but only on certain flights. As of Feb. 2, 2023, travelers with Delta's Gold or Platinum Medallion status flying internationally in Delta Premium Select or Delta One can use the Sky Club before their flight.
Further, Silver Medallion members who hold The Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card or the Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card can get complimentary access to Delta Sky Clubs when traveling on a Delta-operated or -marketed flight, or for $50 when flying a SkyTeam partner.
Silver Medallion holders get SkyTeam Elite status, which offers a few limited benefits on most partners. Gold, Platinum and Diamond holders get SkyTeam Elite Plus status, which offers more robust benefits like lounge access. All Medallion holders get one extra free piece of luggage on partner flights.

You'll only roll over additional MQMs if you earned at least Silver Medallion status last year for 2023. If not, you reset back to zero. Trying to figure out how many Delta MQMs you'll roll over? Subtract the number of MQMs required to earn your current level of status from how many MQMs you earned in 2022.
You might even be able to use a Delta SkyMiles credit card to earn Silver Medallion status without ever flying if you're a big enough spender.
