Yes, your United MileagePlus Premier status is not permanent and must be re-earned during each calendar year (January 1 to December 31). Whatever status you earn in 2026 is valid for the remainder of that year and all of 2027, expiring on January 31, 2028. If you do not meet the "Premier Qualifying Points" (PQP) and "Premier Qualifying Flights" (PQF) thresholds during the 2027 calendar year, you will drop down to a lower tier or "General Member" status in early 2028. However, United often provides a "starter PQP deposit" in February for those who held status the previous year to help them maintain their level. The only exception to this annual cycle is Million Miler status; if you fly a lifetime total of 1 million "biscuits" (actual flight miles) on United-operated flights, you receive Lifetime Premier Gold status, which never expires regardless of how much you fly in a given year.
