While you can "see" the highlights of Sintra in a half-day, it is highly recommended to dedicate a full day (at least 8 to 10 hours) to truly appreciate its magic in 2026. Sintra is home to several sprawling estates, including the colorful Pena Palace, the mysterious Quinta da Regaleira with its initiation wells, and the rugged Moorish Castle. Each of these sites requires 2–3 hours to explore properly, and they are separated by winding mountain roads that can be slow to navigate via the 434 tourist bus or tuk-tuks. A full day allows you to start early (essential for beating the 9:00 AM crowds at Pena Palace) and still have time for a relaxed lunch in the historic village center. If you only spend 4 hours, you will likely only manage one palace and feel rushed, missing the "fairytale" atmosphere that makes this UNESCO World Heritage site world-famous.
