As of May 7, 2025, and continuing through 2026, the REAL ID requirement is fully in effect for all domestic air travel and for entering federal facilities. However, for a Disney Cruise, the documentation requirement depends on your itinerary and citizenship. For "closed-loop" cruises (voyages that begin and end at the same U.S. port, such as Port Canaveral to the Bahamas and back), U.S. citizens can currently still use a standard government-issued birth certificate and a matching government-issued photo ID. However, if you are flying to your departure port within the United States, you will need a REAL ID (or a passport) to pass through airport security. For all international itineraries or "open-loop" cruises, a valid U.S. Passport is mandatory. Disney highly recommends that all guests travel with a passport regardless of the itinerary, as it is the only document that allows you to fly back to the U.S. from a foreign port in the event of an emergency. While a REAL ID-compliant driver's license is sufficient for the "ID" portion of a closed-loop sailing, it does not replace the need for a birth certificate or a passport for proof of citizenship.
