Do you need a reservation to drive through Sequoia National Park?

No reservations are required to enter Sequoia and Kings Canyon. Advance purchasing of entrance fees is not available for Commercial Vehicles.

The main road through Sequoia National Park is the Generals Highway, which runs from one entrance all the way to the other. It takes about an hour and a half to drive all the way through the park on the 47-mile highway, although we'd recommend making plenty of stops along the way.

Generals Highway connects the two parks, and their two celebrated stands of giant sequoia groves. A number of popular hiking trailheads are located at selected turnouts along the way, as are overlooks to rocky ridges and sequoia groves.

The National Park Service operates all campgrounds in Sequoia & Kings Canyon. Advance reservations are available for Lodgepole and Dorst campgrounds; all others are first-come, first-served.

You can sleep in your car in Sequoia National Park at an established campsite. However, you cannot park in parking lots or along the road and sleep in your car. This style of car camping is called “dispersed camping” and is only allowed in certain places on National Forest or BLM land.
