Do you need Genie Plus for Tron?

Some attractions don't have Lightning Lanes (like Astro Orbiter and PeopleMover) and some attractions with Lightning Lanes aren't included in Genie+. At Magic Kingdom, TRON Lightcycle Run and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train have Lightning Lanes but are not a part of Genie+.

As of early 2026, you cannot use the standard Genie+ (now renamed Lightning Lane Multi Pass) to ride TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom. Instead, TRON utilizes a Lightning Lane Single Pass (formerly Individual Lightning Lane) for those who wish to skip the line. This is a separate, "a la carte" purchase that typically costs between $20 and $25 per person depending on the day's demand. If you do not wish to pay for the Single Pass, the only other way to ride is by joining the Virtual Queue via the My Disney Experience app. The Virtual Queue "drops" at 7:00 AM and 1:00 PM daily; there is no traditional "standby" line for this attraction. For guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resorts, an additional Virtual Queue opportunity is often available at 6:00 PM during Extended Evening Hours. Because the Virtual Queue can fill up in seconds, purchasing the Lightning Lane Single Pass is the only way to "guarantee" a ride time and avoid the stress of the digital lottery system.

In fact, you could theoretically ride TRON Lightcycle Run up to 3 times in one day if you're a day guest and party attendee. Once thanks to one of the earlier two VQ times, once via Individual Lightning Lane, and a third time during MNSSHP.

One possibility is that the company has found the “sweet spot” for pricing during popular tourist seasons, and it's $35. Another is that price points have been “reset” and $35 is now the baseline for busier days, with the number only going higher when we enter the next big holiday season.

Genie Plus is definitely worth it for Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, and if you don't like early starts, you might consider it for Epcot and Animal Kingdom. If you are park hopping, Genie+ is even better value as it maximises the number of rides you have access to.

We offered an update on this over the summer, after several readers reported waiting 45 to 90 minutes in the outdoor overflow queue during the day before boarding a lightcycle. I've since been in the same boat, and have waited 40-55 minutes for TRON Lightcycle Run at various points in mid-August 2023.

Essentially, if you secure a boarding group, you'll be assigned a return window to come back and ride the attraction. Multiple rides use the VQ system in Disney World, and in our experience, we've been able to be late to our return window and still allowed on the ride.
