Do you need Genie Plus to ride Guardians?

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind does not offer a standby line and is only available for puchase via the Disney Genie+ Individual Attraction selection or through the virtual queue. This means that this ride is not included in the general cost per day for Genie+ but is available at a separate cost.

Not all Disneyland attractions are available with Genie Plus, which we'll get into below. This add-on is toadally optional. All rides continue to operate with a standby queue (and sometimes a Single Rider line) at no additional charge.

If you're going to Disney World and you want to experience this attraction, you'll need either a Virtual Queue Boarding Group or a paid Individual Lightning Lane Reservation. Below, we'll walk you through the process no matter which option you choose.

In most cases, guests who have been late to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind have been allowed to ride after scanning their park ticket at the attraction's entrance. Though this may not be the case for every day, especially during the parks' busy seasons.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Guests will need to use the My Disney Experience app to enter this attraction. A standby queue will not be available. Each Guest can request to enter the virtual queue no more than once per day during regular park hours.

Can Genie+ sell out? Yes. It can. Although it isn't common, we've seen it happen a few times during busier times of the year (like over the holidays and Spring Break).

Because you can only use Genie+ access once per attraction, you do need to modify it if you wish to change your arrival time. If you miss your window and did not successfully cancel or modify it, you will not be able to make another reservation for that attraction.

And, for that reason, ever since its opening day on May 27th, 2022, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has utilized a Virtual Queue as a line management tool for this in-demand ride. In fact, Cosmic Rewind does not offer a traditional Standby Line at all… at least, not at this time.

Guests are limited to one ride per day on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind using the Virtual Queue during regular park hours. This allows as many people as possible an opportunity to ride. However, it is possible to get into the Virtual Queue and also buy an Individual Lightning Lane to ride a second time.

You don't get the typical bumps and jostling you might find on Big Thunder Mountain or other coasters, but the rest of the technology and elements of this ride can make riders queasy.

Genie Plus is definitely worth it for Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, and if you don't like early starts, you might consider it for Epcot and Animal Kingdom. If you are park hopping, Genie+ is even better value as it maximises the number of rides you have access to.

Genie+ is a paid add-on to the free Genie service that gives guests front-of-the-line access to high-traffic attractions and shows, like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade. The price for Genie+ varies between parks, days and how busy the parks are on your reservation date.
