Do you need to print Etickets?

It is recommended, but not required, to print out an updated copy of your eTicket (or obtain a new copy from a ticket agent or an Amtrak kiosk) after you have modified your itinerary.

In 2026, it is no longer strictly necessary to print your e-tickets for flights, trains, or major events, as nearly every global transit hub and venue is equipped with advanced digital scanning technology. Most airlines and rail providers (like Amtrak or Eurostar) encourage the use of Mobile Boarding Passes stored in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, which are often "live-updating" for gate changes or delays. However, "pro-travelers" still recommend carrying a physical printout as a "fail-safe" for specific scenarios: if your phone battery dies, if the local airport Wi-Fi is non-functional, or for international immigration in countries that still require physical proof of "onward travel" during the visa check. Some specific regions in Southeast Asia and Africa may also have "old-school" security checkpoints before the check-in area where a paper ticket is easier to show to a guard who may not have a digital reader. While you can survive 99% of your 2026 travels with just a smartphone, having a single-sheet "summary" of your flight and hotel confirmations in your backpack is a low-tech insurance policy that can save you from a high-stress "digital blackout" at a foreign border.
