It is not necessarily accurate to say that all Native Hawaiians & locals dislike tourists. Many Native Hawaiians work in the tourism industry & rely on it for their livelihoods. But, more commonly, people find that there are less and less Native Hawaiians willing to work in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Floods and landslidesThey're more of a problem for hikers and other adventurers. However, they do occasionally lead to landslides. Landslides are probably the most significant danger to people driving around the islands, and are most common in remote areas of Kauai, Maui, Moloka'i, and Lanai.
Do not use public transportation. Stay in a separate room or area in your dwelling and away from other people as much as possible. Use a separate bathroom, if available. Do not use any public areas such as the pool, dining room, or other available facilities.
While many vacations are five to seven days long, we recommend staying for at least 10 days to enjoy your Hawaiian vacation. The time change is difficult to adjust to at first and takes about 3 days to get fully acclimated. So, allowing a couple days to get over the jet lag is important.
April thru June and mid-August thru mid-September are Hawaii's low seasons, and airfares are lower then. No matter what time of year you travel, you may be able to score better deals if you travel midweek.
