Does Amex Platinum have unlimited lounge access?

As part of The American Express Global Lounge Collection®, Platinum Card® members can enjoy unlimited, complimentary access to Plaza Premium lounges around the world.

Excellent question. The short answer is no, the Amex Platinum does not have truly “unlimited” lounge access. While it offers the most extensive lounge network of any personal card, there are important capacity controls, guest policies, and specific rules for its different lounge programs.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of the access and its limitations:

1. Centurion Lounges (Amex’s Own Premium Lounges)

  • Access: You have complimentary access when flying any airline (same-day boarding pass required).
  • The Key Limitation: Guests are not free. You can bring up to two guests for a fee of $50 each (or $30 for children 2-17). The only way to get free guest access is if you spend $75,000 or more on your card in the prior calendar year.
  • Capacity Controls: Amex can and does enforce “capacity controls” during peak times, potentially restricting entry to cardholders only (no guests allowed) or implementing a waitlist.

2. Delta Sky Clubs (When Flying Delta)

  • Access: You have complimentary access only when flying Delta on a same-day ticket.
  • The Key Limitation: As of February 1, 2025, this benefit is changing significantly. You will receive 10 complimentary Delta Sky Club visits per year. After those 10 visits, you can pay $50 per visit to enter. This is a major reduction from the previous “unlimited” access when flying Delta.
  • Guest Policy: Guests will cost $50 per person, per visit (ages 2+). These guest fees do not
