Does Barbados need a visa for Europe?

Any Barbadian citizen that wishes to enter Europe for over 90 days, or for other purposes than those allowed under the ETIAS program will need to apply for a Schengen visa.

As of 2026, citizens of Barbados do not need a traditional Schengen visa for short-term stays in most of Europe, provided the visit is for tourism, business, or transit and lasts no more than 90 days within a 180-day period. However, a significant change in 2026 is the full implementation of ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System). Barbadian passport holders must now apply for this electronic authorization online before they travel to any of the 30 European countries in the Schengen Area. The ETIAS is not a visa; it is a security pre-screening linked to your passport, costing approximately €7 for adults (waived for those under 18 or over 70). Once approved, it is valid for three years or until your passport expires. It is essential to complete this digital application at least 96 hours before your flight to avoid boarding denials at the airport.
