Does Delta have digital ID?

Your time at the airport should be as comfortable as your experience on board. To help you get to your gate as soon as possible, we have developed a unique and secure Delta Digital ID functionality for eligible SkyMiles® Members, with the support of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

Yes, Delta Air Lines has a robust "Digital ID" program (now officially branded in coordination with the TSA as TSA PreCheck® Touchless ID) that is currently active and expanding in 2026. This technology allows eligible passengers—those who are SkyMiles members, have the Fly Delta app, and are enrolled in TSA PreCheck with a valid passport—to move through the airport without showing a physical ID or boarding pass. At participating airports, you simply look into a camera at the bag drop or security checkpoint, and facial recognition technology verifies your identity against a secure gallery maintained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. As of early 2026, this "hands-free" experience is available at major hubs including ATL (Atlanta), DTW (Detroit), LAX (Los Angeles), LGA (New York), JFK (New York), SLC (Salt Lake City), DCA (Washington), and SEA (Seattle), with more "security-only" experiences at DEN, LAS, and PDX. By the end of 2026, Delta plans to have this technology available at nearly all of its domestic hubs. While the system is nearly 99% accurate and incredibly fast, the TSA still requires you to carry your physical government-issued ID as a backup in case the biometric match cannot be completed.

In the event you arrive at the airport without proper ID, because it is lost or at home, you may still be allowed to fly. By providing additional information, TSA has other ways to confirm your identity, like using publicly available databases, so you can reach your flight.

There's no right or wrong answer when it comes to deciding which type of boarding pass is right for you — both work just fine. But when it comes to air travel, we like to play it safe, which is why we recommend printing out your boarding pass, too.

MORE DETAILS

There are several ways to get a boarding pass. You can get it on the airline's website and print it on paper. Or pull it up on your phone in the airline's app. You can also print it at the airport.
