The closure comes as Disney undergoes a major multi-year renovation — or, in Disney parlance, a reimagining of Downtown Disney. Disney plans to open up several areas of Downtown Disney as open-air gathering spaces, where visitors and families can picnic or hang out and bring in new shops and name-brand dining tenants.
Disney Springs, formerly known as Downtown Disney, is located at the Walt Disney World Resort. Disney Springs has it all: dining, entertainment and shopping opportunities. Entertainment at Disney Springs takes place throughout the day and into the night.

Unlike Disney Springs, Downtown Disney isn't big enough to plan a visit for an entire day, but it is worth visiting for at least a morning, afternoon, or evening. Weekends and evenings are typically busier, so it's best to keep that in mind, especially when booking dining reservations.
The Downtown Disney renovation will reimagine the west end of Disneyland's outdoor shopping mall with a new midcentury modern design inspired by the Palm Springs area near Walt Disney's vacation home.
While Disney could pick up and move some of its businesses from Orlando to another state, Disney World and its other theme parks aren't going anywhere. Moving all the infrastructure, including hotels, restaurants and shops as well as transportation to move guests around, just wouldn't be feasible.

Disney also revealed its plan to change the name of the area to Disney Springs in order to give it a small-town feel, playing off and highlighting an existing lake. We were told that the number of restaurants, shops and venues would double to 150.
The Town of Celebration, Florida is a community founded by the Walt Disney Company in 1996. Today, however, all properties in the community are privately owned. It is in Osceola County west of the City of Kissimmee and about 20 miles southwest of downtown Orlando.
