Does Forbidden Journey go fast?

Forbidden Journey does not technically go fast. This ride simulates soaring over the Hogwarts landscape at a thrilling speed. While you're not actually flying, the illusion is very convincing thanks to this attraction's innovative robotic arm swinging you up and down through the immersive scenes.

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, located at Universal Parks, is not "fast" in the traditional sense of a high-speed roller coaster, but it is an extremely intense and complex motion-based attraction. The ride vehicle is actually a robotic KUKA arm mounted on a moving track, which provides a high degree of agility rather than linear speed. While the vehicles only travel at a modest pace through the physical sets, the arm can whip, tilt, and pivot you 360 degrees with significant force to simulate the feeling of flying on a broomstick. The most "intense" sensations come from the rapid transitions between physical animatronics and massive projection screens, which can make you feel as though you are plummeting or soaring through the air. Because the ride features sharp, swift movements and moments where you are tilted nearly onto your back, it is notorious for causing motion sickness, even though it never reaches high velocities or includes large gravity-defying drops. For many, the "speed" is perceived through the kinetic energy of the robotic arm rather than the miles per hour of the vehicle.

But it moves around so much. I am not a coaster person, but I would rather ride a coaster than ride this again. It is also really dark and scary. Not appropriate for kids at all, which is fine since they probably wouldn't be tall enough to ride this anyway.

We would rank Forbidden Journey five out of five Dementors in terms of scariness. Close encounters with over-sized spiders and those pesky Dementors, along with the unique ride motion, can make the experience as scary as it is amazing.

Children over 48? tall are allowed on Forbidden Journey, however, my advice to parents would be to carefully consider the temperament of your child before taking them on this ride. There were children as young as Emma on the ride who clearly were not affected by it in the least.

The seats accommodate a wide variety of body shapes and sizes. Each bench has specially modified seats at either end. Though these allow many more people to ride, it's possible that guests of size can't fit in them.

It is somewhat extreme, but not as extreme as many other coasters. Evaluating thrill levels for other Universal Orlando rides, we give the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit coaster and the Hulk coaster 8s. The more tame Harry Potter and the Escape From Gringotts gets a 4 on the same scale.
