Does Freedom Pass include trains?

Free Standard Class travel is available for all freedom pass holders on local rail services after 9.30am. On some routes, different times apply. Passes are not valid on Gatwick Express, Heathrow Express or any long distance inter-city train that does not stop at intermediate stations within the Freedom Pass area.

It does not allow you to use trams, trains or any other modes of transport. People with passes from other English concessionary travel schemes (from outside of London) can only travel on Transport For London bus network - not on any other mode of transport.

Outside Greater London the card can be used for free travel on any local bus route in England (but not Scotland or Wales) wherever and whenever the English National Concessionary Bus Travel Scheme applies.

Having carefully considered an equality impact assessment, and stakeholder feedback, I confirmed on Wednesday 18 January 2023 that the temporary travel time restrictions on 60+ Oyster and Older Person's Freedom Passes would become permanent. No changes will apply to holders of the Disabled Persons Freedom Pass.

Eligibility. There are two type of Freedom Passes: an Older Person's Freedom Pass (OPFP) and a Disabled Person's Freedom Pass (DPFP); the former has a blue right hand edge band and the latter a yellow one to enable transport operators to quickly identify which concessions are applicable.

Where can I use my bus pass? Your bus pass is valid for use on all registered Bus services within England, so if you are visiting other places you should be able to use your pass. It is not valid in Wales* or Scotland.
