The Glasgow subway connects the central area with the west end and opposite side of the river. Service is fairly smooth, with the tracks running in opposite circles, so you can't get lost. Tickets are not transferrable to the bus service.

Glasgow Central does not have a subway station directly inside its building, but it is located very close to the St Enoch and Buchanan Street stations on the Glasgow Subway circuit. The closest is St Enoch, which is roughly a 5-minute walk (approx. 400 meters) from the main Argyle Street exit of the station. In 2026, the Glasgow Subway is undergoing a major modernization, introducing driverless trains and swankier carriages designed to maximize space and minimize the historic "shoogle" (wobble). For travelers with heavy luggage, a dedicated "bus link" often runs between Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street, and many city buses stop directly outside the station to provide connections to the wider subway network. While the subway is the third-oldest in the world and covers a convenient "circular" route between the City Centre and the West End, you will need to step outside the railway station's grand Victorian concourse to access it.
