By far the easiest and cheapest option, just hop on the the MIA Mover, an automated train system, from the airport to the Miami Intermodal Center, which is located nearby. The MIA Mover train station at the airport is located on the third level between the Dolphin and Flamingo Garages.
Miami cruise port is just 8 miles east of Miami International (MIA) Airport. The journey by car takes about 12 minutes, and even longer in heavy traffic.
Cruise Ship Boarding FAQAs mentioned, cruise ships usually start boarding four to five hours before departure and won't allow you to board until they're ready. So there's no use in arriving at the cruise terminal first thing in the morning as you'll have to wait around for hours before you can even board.
The entire timeline can take 30 to 45 minutes after arrival. Just because your cruise ship is at the dock doesn't mean that people get off immediately. Once you are cleared to go ashore, you may experience a rush of people, but lines tend to decrease quickly.
Note: The trolley stops toward the west end of cruise port. If sailing Royal Caribbean (Terminal A) or Norwegian Cruise Line (Terminal B), then expect a decent walk with luggage to the cruise ship.
Cruise line shuttles are often more expensive than a cruise port transfer you'd arrange on your own. You might have to wait around in the airport or on the bus to wait for more passengers on other flights to arrive before the bus departs. Also, depending on your flight times, shuttles might not be available.
