SEPTA begins using tap-to-pay technology for all bus, trolley, subway riders. PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- Starting today, SEPTA riders can use contactless payment options on city and suburban buses, trolleys, the Market Frankford Line, Broad Street Line, and Norristown High Speed Line.

Missed Tap Off Cost If you don't have a default set on your card and you forget to tap off at the end of your trip, you'll be charged the fare to the last stop on the train line or bus route and with your fare type and any applicable loyalty discounts applied.

There are SEPTA Key cards out there that expire on February 28, 2021 so please take a moment to check the GOOD THRU date on the front of your card. If your SEPTA Key card is set to expire and it is not already registered, we recommend you do so immediately at septakey.org.

If you have a SEPTA Key card - the (Travel Wallet) fare is $2 per ride; your first and second transfer is free. If you're paying cash - the cost is $2.50 and you must have exact change - the Operator cannot make change.

If the time between touching in at the start and touching out at the end of your journey is more than the maximum journey time limit, you'll be charged two maximum pay as you go fares. A single maximum fare is: up to £9.40 in Zones 1-9. up to £26.00 beyond Zone 9, including on the Heathrow Express.
