The Porter 46 is considered a max-size carry on with dimensions of 22” x 14” x11” (56 x 36 x 28 cm). This pack gets a lot of criticism for being wider than the max allowable by most airlines. The 40L will max out carry on dimensions on most airlines so you never have to check a bag. For stricter airlines, like RyanAir, 30L will be a better choice.
