How are Avios points added to my account?

There are many ways to collect Avios. Booking British Airways flights, holidays, hotel stays and car hire are great ways to top up your balance. Pre-booking seats, paying for extra baggage or upgrading your cabin on a British Airways or Iberia-marketed flight.

In 2026, Avios points are added to your account through four primary channels: flying, credit card spend, shopping portals, and "lifestyle" partners. When flying with British Airways, Qatar Airways, or Iberia, points are credited automatically if your frequent flyer number is linked to the booking (usually appearing within 3–7 days of the flight). You can also earn Avios by transferring points from partners like American Express Membership Rewards or Chase Ultimate Rewards. A popular 2026 method is using the BA eStore, where shopping at retailers like Apple or Sephora earns points per dollar spent. Additionally, 2026 has seen a surge in "micro-earning" partnerships: for example, you can link your Uber account to earn 1 Avios per £1 spent on rides, or earn points through real estate services and even grocery shopping with Nectar.
