The problem is that you cannot choose your own schedule or stay in Hawaii or on one island as long as you want.

Moving to Hawaii without flying is possible but requires a "repositioning cruise" or a multi-day sea voyage. Since there are no regular ferry services from the U.S. mainland to Hawaii, your best option is to book a one-way cruise from cities like Vancouver, San Francisco, or Sydney. These "Transpacific" sailings take anywhere from 5 to 10 days to reach the islands. While these are technically "vacation" cruises, you can disembark at the final Hawaiian port and stay. The biggest challenge is your belongings; you cannot bring a moving truck on a cruise ship. To move your life, you must hire a freight shipping company (like Matson or Pasha Hawaii) to transport a shipping container with your car and furniture via a cargo ship. You then travel light on the cruise and meet your container at the port in Honolulu or Hilo. This "slow move" is expensive and requires careful coordination between the cruise line and your freight forwarder.
