Sunset Cliffs sea temperatures peak in the range 19 to 22°C (66 to 72°F) on around the 5th of September and are at their lowest on about the 3rd of February, in the range 13 to 17°C (55 to 63°F).
The beaches along Sunset Beach are wide, seldom crowded, and feature miles of oceanfront that are ideal for body boarding, surfing, swimming, or a little bit of surf fishing.
Makunufushi Island, MaldivesThe Maldives doesn't have a swimming season because the water is always warm enough (82 to 86 degrees) to dive right in and splash around. There are tons of gorgeous beaches, but we're partial to the private island of Makunufushi.
In the open ocean and along the shoreline, wind mixes the water around and brings water from the bottom of the ocean, which is cold and nutrient-rich, to the surface of the ocean.
The heat that the ocean absorbs is mixed with the lower water quickly. That mixing spreads the heat around. At night, while the land cools off quickly, the water at the surface is kept warmer because the water is mixed around with the warmer water underneath.
Sand has much lower specific heat than water. A low specific heat means sand doesn't need much energy from the sun to warm. That's why when the sun comes out in the middle of the day, sand goes from comfortable to hot quickly. At night, when the sun goes down, the sand cools also very quickly.
