How do Genie Plus Lightning lanes work?

The Lightning Lane is a special queue at some attractions that allows you to skip [most of] the wait in line. To use the Lightning Lane, you need a reservation for a specific time. Disney Genie is a feature of My Disney Experience. The Genie page in the app has two tabs, the Tip Board and the My Day tab.



In 2026, the service formerly known as "Genie+" has been streamlined into the Lightning Lane Multi Pass. It works as a digital "reservation" system that allows you to bypass the standard standby line for over 20 attractions at each park. You purchase the pass for a specific day through the My Disney Experience app, with prices varying based on demand. Once purchased, you can book your first "arrival window" for an attraction. When your window arrives, you go to the ride's Lightning Lane entrance and scan your MagicBand or phone. The system follows a "two-hour rule": you can book your next Lightning Lane either as soon as you tap into your current one OR two hours after you made your previous selection, whichever comes first. This allows you to "stack" reservations for later in the day. It is important to note that the most popular "Tier 1" attractions (like Rise of the Resistance) are not included in the Multi Pass and require a separate Individual Lightning Lane purchase. Success with the system requires staying active on the app and "refilling" your slots as soon as the clock allows.

And no matter how many theme parks you visit, you can only purchase two Individual Lightning Lane passes per day. In addition, like standard Genie+ rides, you can't buy passes more than once for the same ride.

However, this is an average, and as long as you stay within the guidelines I mentioned above, you are good to go!

Is Disney Lightning Lane Worth it Conclusion. As a general rule of thumb we do find the Disney World Lightning Lane to be worth it if you can find a way to save 60 minutes per attraction at a cost of under $11.00 per attraction.

Can Genie+ sell out? Yes. It can. Although it isn't common, we've seen it happen a few times during busier times of the year (like over the holidays and Spring Break).

One possibility is that the company has found the “sweet spot” for pricing during popular tourist seasons, and it's $35. Another is that price points have been “reset” and $35 is now the baseline for busier days, with the number only going higher when we enter the next big holiday season.

Genie Plus is definitely worth it for Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, and if you don't like early starts, you might consider it for Epcot and Animal Kingdom. If you are park hopping, Genie+ is even better value as it maximises the number of rides you have access to.
