How do I add my Railcard to my Oyster card?

To link your Oyster card and railcard, you need to take your Oyster card and your railcard to an Underground station, Overground ticket office or some National Rail ticket offices and ask the clerk to add your discount entitlement to your Oyster card. It will be valid until the expiry of the railcard.

Great question! Here’s how to add a Railcard discount to your Oyster card:

Online (Easiest Method)

  1. Create an account on the TfL website if you don’t have one
  2. Register your Oyster card to your account
  3. Add your Railcard to your account
  4. The discount will be automatically applied to your Oyster card when you use pay-as-you-go

At a Tube Station Ticket Machine

  1. Tap your Oyster card on the yellow reader
  2. Select “Add discount” or “Add Railcard”
  3. Follow the prompts to add your Railcard

At a London Overground or TfL Rail Station

  • Staff at ticket offices can add the discount for you

Important Notes:

  • Only certain Railcards work with Oyster: 16-25, 26-30, Senior, Disabled Persons, and Veterans Railcards
  • Discount applies to off-peak fares only (after 9:30 AM weekdays, all day weekends)
  • You must carry your Railcard when traveling as you may be asked to show it
  • The discount gives you 1/3 off off-peak pay-as-you-go fares
  • National Railcards (like Two Together) cannot be added to Oyster

Alternative: Contactless Payment

If you use contactless payment cards/phones, you can register your Railcard discount online with TfL to get the same savings without needing an Oyster card.
