To qualify, simply fly 100 qualifying one-way flights or earn 135,000 qualifying points* in a calendar year, and you'll earn Companion Pass for the following full calendar year, plus the remainder of the year in which you earned it. Companion tickets are not transferable once issued. Companion Certificate and Delta eCredits can be combined in the same transaction. Delta eCredits can be applied as payment toward cost of the primary ticket, companion ticket, and any government-imposed taxes and fees.

Although the companion fare can only be used to book flights in the economy cabin, there are still ways to use it and save on first class travel. Complimentary elite upgrades are available close to departure, and some fares can be upgraded further in advance.

Companions receive sequential boarding so you will get boarding positions next to or very close to each other. Since that is the case, only one of you needs to purchase EBCI, the 2nd person will automatically get the benefit. You do both need to check-in, but there's no rush as EBCI will be applied.

Southwest will let pass holders change their companion up to three times per calendar year. There's no limit on how many times or on which routes a Companion Pass can be used. Even better, there are no blackout dates or seat restrictions for using the Companion Pass.

First, you don't have two companion passes so don't think you can book two companions. You have one CP and can have one companion. You cannot earn CP multiple times concurrently. If your son also has a companion pass then he can also designate one companion.
