How do I get my AA Platinum status?

AAdvantage Platinum status is the second tier elite status within American Airlines' loyalty program. Members must earn 75,000 Loyalty Points by the end of February each year to reach this level. Every eligible AAdvantage mile earns 1 Loyalty Point.

To achieve American Airlines AAdvantage Platinum status in 2026, you must earn 75,000 Loyalty Points within the qualification year (March 1 to the end of February). Unlike old-school mileage programs, Loyalty Points can be earned through more than just flying; you get 1 point for every $1 spent on an AAdvantage credit card, as well as points for shopping via the AAdvantage eShopping portal and booking hotels through AA's partners. Platinum status offers significant perks, including complimentary upgrades as early as 48 hours before departure, a 60% mileage bonus, and two free checked bags. A major advantage of the Platinum tier over the lower Gold tier is that you get access to Main Cabin Extra (extra legroom) seats at the time of booking rather than just at check-in. This makes the 75,000-point goal a highly sought-after target for frequent travelers looking for domestic comfort and priority airport services.
