Frequent United flyers can earn MileagePlus Gold status after reaching 1 million lifetime miles. Once earned, they'll get to keep Gold status for life, which is pretty cool.

To achieve lifetime Premier Gold status on United Airlines, you must reach the one million mile milestone through United's "Million Miler" program. Only miles flown on United and United Express operated flights count toward this total; miles from partners or credit card spending are excluded. Once you hit 1,000,000 lifetime flight miles, you are granted Premier Gold status for life, regardless of your annual flying activity. In 2026, an additional benefit of this program is the ability to nominate a companion (spouse or significant other residing at the same address) to share your status. Starting in 2027, companions of 1 Million Milers will specifically be granted Gold status. If you reach higher tiers—2 million, 3 million, or 4 million miles—your lifetime status (and your companion's) increases to Platinum, 1K, and Global Services respectively. It is a prestigious reward for long-term loyalty that ensures you never have to "qualify" for mid-tier benefits again.
