Either Lyft will charge you and the bank will pay the bill and overdraw your account (huge fee-probably alot more than your ride) or it will deny the charge and you won't be able to get a ride again until you pay your bill.
Lyft will always charge after the ride because the fare is based on distance traveled and time. While Lyft can give you an approximation, if there is any variance along the route, it can change the fare. (i.e… traffic, route change).

If you don't have the money on your card then you will be flagged and you will not be able to order anymore Uber rides until you pay the balance. Why does Uber always ask to pay money before the ride, which I have paid?
Lyft places a temporary payment on your account to confirm that the payment method has enough funds to pay for your ride. Temporary payments appear as 'temp auth hold' on your payment account. You might see a pending charge when you request a ride, update your payment method, change your destination, or add a stop.
Learn more here. Riders can simply present a barcode or unique ID number from their Lyft app and add cash, turning physical cash into Lyft Cash. Lyft Cash can then be used in their Lyft account to book rides with no added fees or charges.

When riding with friends or groups, you can always split the cost. There's no need to swap cash—just tell the app to calculate it for you and send you the bill.
If you don't have Uber yet, we recommend signing up for the app and taking that free ride first (if you use a friend's referral code, you both get a free ride!) — and then linking your account to Messenger to get your second free ride.
If the debit/credit card doesn't have enough funds, a pending amount will be generated to your account and you won't be able to use other Uber products until the debt is paid.
Editing or canceling a scheduled rideYou can cancel or edit your ride up to 1 hour before pickup. A cancellation fee will apply if you cancel within 1 hour of pickup. Lyft's normal cancellation policy may apply if: You cancel the ride after a driver has been matched.
This basically means all sales are final and they will never refund any charge whether that charge was for a ride that you took, or an extra cancellation fee that they charged you.
