How do I use Apple wallet at the airport?

Use your ID in Wallet to travel. Present your ID in Wallet at select TSA checkpoints by tapping your iPhone or Apple Watch. It's that easy. You'll never have to show or hand over your device. The states listed below currently support IDs in Wallet, with more on the way.

Using Apple Wallet at the airport is a three-step process: Add, Present, and Pay. First, you must add your boarding pass by clicking the "Add to Apple Wallet" link in your airline's app or check-in email. Once at the airport, you can access the pass even without Wi-Fi by double-clicking the side button (on FaceID iPhones) or swiping to your Wallet. When you reach the TSA agent or the boarding gate, simply hold the top of your iPhone near the contactless scanner. Your phone will automatically display the correct pass using location-based "Geofencing." You can also use Apple Wallet for Apple Pay at airport retailers and restaurants, which is often faster than fumbling for a physical card. In 2026, many airports also allow you to store your Digital ID or Driver's License in Apple Wallet (in participating U.S. states), allowing you to move through specific "PreCheck" lanes by tapping your phone at the identity reader. This "all-in-one" digital approach significantly reduces the "gate anxiety" of losing physical documents while navigating a busy terminal.
