How do you board a ferry in NYC?

There are two tickets types available for purchase, Single-Ride or 10-Trip Pass. All transfers within the NYC Ferry system are free and valid for 120 minutes once you start your one-way trip. Round-trip journeys do not qualify for free transfers.

What is this? Most tourists board the Staten Island Ferry at the southern tip of Manhattan at Whitehall Terminal near Battery Park. This terminal features a large waiting room and a few places to grab a quick bite to eat. There are also large windows that provide a nice view over the Upper New York Bay.

First off, avoid traveling at or around the commuter rush hours of 7:00 to 8:45 am and 5:00 to 6:45 pm! Even the boats right before and after these times are often very busy. Traveling in the late morning and early afternoon is your best chance to get a boat that isn't overly packed.
