How do you dress in Hawaii and not look like a tourist?

Hawaiian Style Tip #1: Aloha Attire
  1. Aloha attire for women : Slacks and a blouse are great as well as an aloha-style dress and sandals.
  2. Aloha attire for men: Aloha shirts (obviously) with either loose fitting pants (think linen or cotton) or tasteful length shorts. Polo shirts are also great.

Leggings | Leggings or athletic shorts are perfect for Hawaii hiking. For warm days you'll be more comfortable in the latter, but leggings come in handy for hiking at higher elevations on Maui, Kauai and the Big Island.

Jeans – Some people say to bring them just in case. I can't think of a single case to wear jeans on Kauai for your vacation. Bring light cotton or khaki pants if you like to wear pants in the evening. Jeans are not comfortable clothing in Hawaii.

Long sleeves | A long-sleeved top, track jacket or popover will keep you warm in places like Upcountry Maui or on early morning hikes. Rain jacket | Throw on a rain jacket or windbreaker if you're visiting in the wet season. These can also come in handy on windy boat rides.

Towels – Most hotels provide their guests pool/beach towels, which can be taken along those day trips to the beach. You might also consider getting a Hawaiian towel as a souvenir while you're here.

Beach blankets are always necessary in Hawaii, but since it can be windy on beaches, regular blankets will just get blown around, or get filled with sand. Most importantly, it's not easy to dry them at the end of the day.

For civilian visitors, there is no official dress code at Pearl Harbor. When you're dressing for the day, however, keep in mind that you're in a place of honor and historical importance. Dress comfortably, but not so much that you risk offending anyone visiting Pearl Harbor.
