How do you keep large bags of chips fresh?

Putting potato chips in the freezer extends their freshness from a matter of days to months when stored properly in a sealed, air-tight bag. So when the instructions on the bag say to store in a cool, dry place, your freezer provides all that!

The most effective way to keep chips fresh is to minimize their exposure to air and moisture. The classic "chip clip" is the most common tool, but for a better seal, you can use the "Ziploc Straw Hack": transfer chips to a gallon-sized freezer bag, insert a straw, seal the bag around it, and suck the air out to create a DIY vacuum seal. Alternatively, you can use the "Double Fold and Tuck" method: fold the top of the bag over several times and then tuck the corners under the fold to create a tension-based seal that keeps it airtight without extra tools. For long-term storage, some enthusiasts even recommend keeping the sealed bag in the freezer, as the low humidity prevents staling. Another professional tip is to store chips in airtight plastic or glass containers, which provide a rigid barrier that prevents both oxidation and physical crushing of the chips.
