How do you maintain Bonvoy points?

Members can remain active in the Loyalty Program and retain accumulated Points by earning Points for completed Stays, Redeeming Marriott Bonvoy® Points, or Purchasing Points in the Loyalty Program at least once every twenty-four (24) months.

To prevent your Marriott Bonvoy points from expiring, you must have qualifying activity in your account at least once every 24 months. The most straightforward way to maintain your balance is by staying at any of Marriott’s 30+ hotel brands worldwide. However, you can also keep your account active without a hotel stay by earning points through a co-branded Marriott Bonvoy credit card, making a purchase at the "Marriott Bonvoy Boutiques," or earning points through the "Eat Around Town" dining program. Redeeming even a small number of points for a gift card or a donation also counts as activity. It is important to note that transferring points between members or receiving them as a gift does not count as qualifying activity to reset the expiration clock. If you have achieved Lifetime Elite Status, your points will never expire regardless of activity levels. For all other members, simply performing one transaction—like buying 1,000 points or booking a single "Points + Cash" night—every two years is enough to secure your entire balance.
