How do you pay for a train ticket UK?

We can accept payment by cash, debit card, credit card or National Rail vouchers. Unfortunately, we no longer accept personal cheques at our ticket offices. We can accept company cheques if you're buying an annual season ticket.

If you have an Advance ticket, you can get the next train operated by the same company that's specified on your ticket. If there's widespread disruption, or a very long wait until the next train (over 60 minutes), then you should be accommodated on a different company at no extra cost.

Remember to tap off at your destination using the same card, phone or watch that you tapped on with as your fare is based on the distance of your trip. This avoids being overcharged the fare to the last stop on the train line or bus route because the PRESTO system doesn't know where you've travelled to.
