How do you pay for the train in Miami?

Metrorail operates 5 a.m. to midnight seven days a week. To ride, you can pay directly at the fare gate with contactless payment or you can purchase an EASY Card or EASY Ticket, or a mobile pass on the GO Miami-Dade Transit app.

Paying for the train in Miami, specifically the Metrorail and Tri-Rail systems, is primarily done through the EASY Card or EASY Ticket system, as well as modern contactless methods. As of 2026, the most convenient way for visitors is to use a contactless credit card, debit card, or a mobile wallet like Apple Pay or Google Pay directly at the fare gates; this automatically applies a daily fare cap of $5.65. For those who prefer dedicated transit cards, the EASY Card is a plastic, reloadable card available for purchase at Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) located at all stations, while the EASY Ticket is a paper-based version intended for short-term use. You can also manage your fares through the "GO Miami-Dade Transit" app, which allows you to buy digital passes and scan a QR code at the gate. It is important to note that the Metromover, the automated people mover serving the Downtown and Brickell areas, remains free of charge for all passengers and does not require any form of payment or scanning. If you are using the Tri-Rail commuter service, you must "tap on" at the station of origin and "tap off" at your destination to ensure the correct distance-based fare is deducted.
