Paying for trams in Belgium is highly modernized and depends on the region you are visiting, as transport is managed by three different entities. In Brussels (STIB/MIVB), the easiest way is contactless payment using a debit card, credit card, or smartphone (Apple/Google Pay) directly at the gray terminals; a single trip costs approximately €2.10–€2.50. In Flanders (De Lijn), which includes Antwerp and Ghent, you can pay contactlessly at the white terminals on board for €3.00, or buy a ticket via the De Lijn app for a cheaper rate. In Wallonia (TEC), contactless "Tap & Go" is also available. Across all regions, you can still use the MOBIB card, a rechargeable smart card that can hold different types of passes. Note that most Belgian trams no longer allow you to purchase tickets from the driver with cash, so you must have a digital payment method or a pre-purchased ticket from a "GO" vending machine before boarding.
