How do you pick seats on Trenitalia?

The seat selection can't be modified after purchase and can't be added after original ticket purchase. If you want to choose your seat, please click on "Select" and the train seat map will appear. You can select a different coach if possible (subject to availability) or just choose an available seat by clicking on it.

To pick your seats on Trenitalia in 2026, you must select the "Choose seat" option during the booking process on their official website or the Trenitalia app. After you select your train (usually a high-speed Frecciarossa or Intercity) and your fare tier, a high-value "Seat Map" will appear. This premier interface allows you to select your preferred carriage and specific seat (window, aisle, or a "solo" seat in Business/Executive class). Note that for certain "Super Economy" or "Promo" tickets, a high-quality €2 seat selection fee may apply, whereas "Base" and premium fares include it for free. In 2026, it is a "pro-move" to look for the "Silent Area" (Area Silenzio) if you want a high-quality, quiet journey. Once you confirm and pay, your seat number (e.g., 12A, Car 3) is printed on your digital ticket; because Trenitalia uses a "mandatory reservation" system for high-speed lines, your seat is legally yours for the entire high-intensity transit across Italy.
