How do you stay warm sleeping in an ice hotel?

Outdoor winter wear such as warm overalls, warm boots, hats and mittens are included when you stay at Icehotel. Your base layer or thermals, including long-johns and a long-sleeved t-shirt, should ideally be made out of wool, but also remember to pack fleece sweaters, a scarf and plenty of warm wool socks.

The temperature inside the hotel hovers at a constant of -5 to -7 C. We provide you with expedition-style sleeping bags which are tested for extreme temperatures, so you'll be fine with just thermals, hat, warm socks and a mid-layer jumper.

And yes, the bed frame is completely made of ice. On top, they place a wooden board, and then a hard mattress upon which you sleep. The hotel will give you an arctic-worthy sleeping bag that will keep you warm-perhaps even hot-throughout the night.

Ice hotels are only available at certain months in the year, which might not be convenient for those with a hectic schedule. The interiors of the hotels are also rather chilly, so you definitely need to enjoy cold temperatures and not be looking to cosy up or go sunbathing!

All rooms in Icehotel Winter have curtain doors (the Art and Deluxe Suites in Icehotel 365 all have doors). The curtains froze solid overnight – but our Ice Hotel issue boots were fine to wear. Cold – but not frozen. If you enjoy camping, you'd probably find a night in the Cold Room quite comfortable.

There are (believe it or not) warm, ordinary toilets at the Ice Hotel. These are in a small house which is incorporated into the Ice Hotel construction so you can step directly through a door from the Ice Hotel into the warm and comfortable ladies' and gents' rooms.

Visit the ICEHOTEL Sweden in winter and you have a good chance of seeing the northern lights illuminating the skies. That's because the hotel is located in a prime spot in Swedish Lapland for aurora viewing. ICEHOTEL is situated in the Arctic Circle, where intense aurora activity occurs.

There are no bathrooms in the IceHotel unless you pay a LOT for a suite. During the day you go out the front door and a 1 min walk back to the warm lobby for the bathrooms and changing areas. At 6 pm , when the front door is locked, you go out the side door for a 15 sec walk into the warm lobby.
